Having 5 hockey players of my own, This book hit home with the passion, drive, and determination that it takes to pursue a dream in sports along with the struggles, sacrifices, and perseverance that it takes to achieve it! Laura’s recount of the years spent was both funny and yet serious. I want to thank her for this memoir of the years that our sons played together! Thanks for the Mints!

This book takes you into the world of travel hockey. Parents need to read this book so you can get a glimpse of the life you are about to enter. Highly recommend.

For those with younger athletes (12 and under), We're Not Here for the Hockey lifts the veil and shares what travel hockey (and all sports) is like for those looking to help their kid become the next Gretzky. From getting recruited to the cult, I mean team, to tryouts, coaches, travel, money, and more, the author helps the reader feel what it is like inside the machine of high-level travel hockey. Just reading this book could also save you thousands of dollars in travel, via some of the tips found in Chapter 9. An easy read that can help parents keep a sense of perspective and manage expectations as they walk the journey of youth hockey in support of their child.

This was hands down the best book I have read in a long time. I laughed, I cried and I was surprised. Every competitive sport parent should read this. I’d really like to meet her someday. This should be required reading for all Team Managers.
